does everyone practice from an elevated platform or on flat ground?

We recently moved to a new house which allows me to practice off the deck at an angle which would replicate being up in a tree; assuming this is better practice than shooting on flat ground?
 
Anytime your goal is to improve on your skills in a hunting situation shooting from an elevated position is a better way to practice than on flat ground. However I say that tuning/sighting in your bow would be done better from the ground. Also if your main goal was improving shooting form I would say that your going to make much better progress practicing on flat ground. In either case some practice is better than no practice!

When I first begin shooting I shoot from the ground. Once I see I'm on target I move up on my platform. I almost exclusively hunt from a stand so I like my practice under the same conditions.
 
I wish I had a platform to frequently practice from, particularly working on bending from the waist. I admit that more than once I dropped my arm and of course blew a shot. I have to remind myself, BEND, BEND.
 
One of the first things I did when I bought my place was to erect a tower. It's 16.5' at floor level and 8' long X 4' wide, has a safety railing around the entire thing, a bench along the length of the back side, and 2 wings in the front that fold out of the way for shooters on either end. You can also access it from either end. I've flung a lot of arrows off that thing.

Yes I shoot of my deck as well. Its a short shot 20 yards. I am contemplating going to Dicks and buying one of those $59 ladder stands and setting it up in my yard at 30 yards. I have a tree that would be perfect for that.
