Powder horns

Wondering if any members make and / or scrimshaw horns

My skill level is such that I'll let one of the master horners from the guild have at it. Below is one I made back in '86. It's a small priming horn while the one above it is an antique. As a matter of fact, I used it this past weekend on a woods walk.

Tell me about the guild. I am interested in a horn that would go with the long hunter Era. My ancestors were not famous but were hunting in Powell valley before the Revolution , would like to have a horn or in tribute.

Thanks for posting that information, Smo. Cane Cutter, one of my horns is a copy of an old Tennessee horn. I think your ancestor could have carried one like the one below. If I remember rightly, I picked it up at the Tennessee Kentucky Rifle Show in Knoxville. BTW, the show this year is coming up the Friday/Saturday after Easter weekend. There's usually several horners set up with plenty of horns for sale. If you're close come visit.

.54 cal flint, 15 inch lenght of pull, sliding wooden patch box ,42 inch barrel, Tennessee walnut, hand inletted stock, no particular style just features I requested, raised cheek piece, some carving would have to do close ups to see detail. Built by John Anderson when he was about 85 years old. The barrel is signed by John. Brass furniture.

Post script l think he said it was something like the 75th rifle he built.

I was a good friend of John. I've got 150 and he was much younger than 85 when he built it for me.

Ron Hess in Georgia is a guild member, and builds a very fine powder horn. He was not at the Knoxville Show this year, but I understand he is still working.

I have 3 or 4 of his horns. I love them.
