I know this is going to be an elementary question for you old, uh, I mean experenced guys. I just got into ML shooting about five years ago and have always used 777 pellets. If I was to go to loose powder would each charge have to be measured with a scale, dipper or some other form of measuring devise? Or is there a flask on the market that can be set to despense the proper charge for each loading? I have checked Cabelas catalog and while it appears that may be the case the description doesn't indicate that for sure. Thanks

Back when I was shooting my Hawken, I used nothing but loose powder and roundball (actually I still do when I use it)I have a flask with a brass tube that was about a 1/4" shorter than my measuring device.

I would tip the flask up, give a slight shake and close the gate,it would be just under my measurement needed. I added a short piece of clear plastic tube to extend it out to make the perfect load. I have used it for over 20 yrs now and it still measures out a correct 90gr everytime.

I have never seen a flask that gave a pre-measured load straight out.

elauwit is correct in the fact that pouring directly from a full flask into the barrel is not safe. If there is a hot amber still in the barrel the entire flask goes up. Hence the lack of pre-measure flasks.

I failed to mention, I placed my finger over the end of the extender and closed the gate to the flask before dumping into the barrel.

Hey thanks elauwit and fulldrawxx75, I hadn't even thought about the fact I would be holding a bomb in my hand that was just looking for a source of iginition. fulldrawxx75, I thought I was the only one left that hadn't gone to carbon.
 
You can buy adjustable powder measures. You could also buy spouts to go on the powder flask and 90 grain spout was one of the ones you could buy. You still need to pour it into a powder measure though.
 
Measure's are fine and work well. Some guys that are VERY VERY serious do weigh thier measured loads.In most cases it's probablly not nessacary. If you are using a cronograph and trying to figure out the perfect load for your gun it will help.
