Picking blackberries yesterday evening a hen busted out of the thicket and had at least 2 of these with her.

Slightly smaller than quail. Had good size reference because I jumped 2 quail 5 minutes later.

Neat pic catman. I had 6 hens cross the road in front of me this afternoon and not the first poult with them. Kinda bummed me out.

that's too bad. Hope there are other hens around with plenty of young

I had a few hens behind my house a couple weeks ago with 12 poults, after the hard rain I have only seen 6, not sure what happened

I thought so too. However, the place was flooded at the end of April, so it could be a late hatch from a 2nd clutch if the first one got washed away.
