Food Plots Potential for rain next week

For those waiting to plant plots, watch the tropics the rest of this week. A slowly forming tropical depression near the northern South American coast is forecast to possibly move up into the Gulf, become a hurricane (potentially a strong one), and come ashore somewhere near the TX/LA border around mid-day Tuesday of next week. This could bring significant rain into West and Middle TN, Tuesday through Thursday.

Hoping we get some from it. Will be trying to get about 7 acres in Fri/Sat. I'll keep an eye on it.

I've got 6 of my 7.25 acres in already. But if this tropical system develops and heads towards the TX/LA coast, I'll push to get that last acre and a quarter done this weekend.

If all goes well, I'm going to try and spray Friday morning once the dew dries and drill Saturday morning. Everything else will have to wait until after my CO trip the weekend of 9/18. But at that time, it is just sowing cereal rye and crimson clover. I'm mainly concerned about getting my brassicas in right now.

We sure could use rain in Carroll County. The terrible storm last Saturday only gave us 0.20" at my farm.

Models are coalescing around the idea of the system developing and moving faster than earlier forecasts. Now, several models have the system coming ashore in Louisiana as a major hurricane as early as Sunday evening, bringing rain to West and Middle TN as early as Monday.

I got some in last weekend and finished it up yesterday! The ones from last weekend are already coming up so this rain should work out nice I hope.

Finished all my plots Saturday. Surprisingly, the ones I planted last Monday are already up, even though we haven't had any rain on them.

Got a lot done, given I was doing it solo. Took Friday off work and sprayed that morning and started drilling wheat and rape a few hours later (about 4 acres). Then I took the box scraper out and tried to level off a little better a newly created plot about an acre in size. A month ago it was hardwoods. Broadcasted 100 lbs of cereal rye and 9 lbs of crimson clover. What is still eating at me, was the dozer got done with a 3.5 acre newly created plot after I left and I didn't get a chance to plant it. He then started on another one and got about 1 acre done, and I couldn't plant it either. Oh well, it can wait until I get back from my trip - it is just cereal rye and crimson clover. It will come up just fine planted at the end of September.

It comes up fast, even in newly bulldozed plots. Here's mine two weeks after planting. Rye, buckwheat and crimson clover.

Same here, but only one plot. I still needed to spray my other one and didn't want to take a chance on the rain starting too soon. I'll get to that this week and watch for rain next week.

I'm a little worried about future rain. Models have nothing in the next 15 days for West TN. East TN a little different. Higher chances a week from Wednesday.

September can sure be dry

Saw that as been looking for next opportunity. Didn't get all done Sunday evening before rain set in. Not too worried about rain the next couple weeks for the ones planted as our soil moisture is best ever seen for this time of year. Over 30" rain in past 4 months is almost unbelievable.
However I certainly agree that September can be our driest month, in 2019 I got .24" the whole month after planting...
Weatherwise though this weekend looks to be pretty nice. Will be a good opportunity to get the remaining ones ready to plant at next rain event.

I have planted the first week of October las two years due to lack of rain. Clover and Cereal Rye came up fine, just wasn't ready until last couple weeks of bow season.
