I am looking to buy a custom made pot call for the upcoming season. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated !

Thank you!

Get yourself a David Halloran Crystal Mistress.. every hunter should own one! Responsible for the death of many gobblers!

Since I have no other call makers to add, I'll second this one. i cannot call all that well. Just really got into it about 2 seasons ago. The first year I used this call i killed 2 in 3 hunts and would have went 3 for 3 but a tree jumped in my way and he got out of there.

All these call makers make, several good pots in slate, aluminum, and other materials.

Thanks for all the replies . I truly appreciate it. I'm gonna do some research on each and make a decision! It will be time to hit the woods again before you know it! Good luck everyone!

We've done it for you; you need AT LEAST 2 pot calls (various surfaces) from each call maker mentioned above, but 3 would be better. :tu:

I don't think you can go wrong with many custom made calls that any of these guys are mentioned. I recently found a call maker named Bearded Hen and his are good as well.

I want to try the David Halloran green slate. I think he is the one that has it?

David halloran crystal mistress

Lonnie Sneed hot hen or outlaw hen

Lonzos custom calls

There are a lot of quality call makers out there, some really good ones have been mentioned.

Halloran or Lonzo. I've killed a pile of turkeys with the Crystal Mistress. A Lonzo maple or zebrawood slate would be a good compliment.

A Dawkins aluminum would also be a good one to add. Everyone needs a solid aluminum call in their vest. I just got a Hanks paduak aluminum and am very pleased. The Hanks Osage slate sounds deadly too.

I'm looking to pick up an anodized aluminum call for this season and cant decide what to go with...any suggestions fellas?

I just got a Hanks paduak aluminum that I'm very pleased with. It won the DD Adams award last year.

Darrin Dawkins makes a good one in a plastic pot.

Another vote for Halloran. If you have any interest in putting calls together yourself, check out Brookside game calls booth. They are under rated I feel. They will have some fine sounding calls on the table for you to play with and buy. You can also buy or order the kits and finish them yourself for a more personal touch.

I have a Lights Out that I really like.

Do yourself a favor and get a "stoned" aluminum call. Lonzo makes a great one.
You will be much more happier with it when in the turkey woods. Doesn't require as much conditioning.

Thanks for the advice. What's the tone difference in the two?

Agree; if you have the time and ability to sand/finish the pot. Have made a couple with ordering the components from Brookside and and they sound just fine.

Turkeys won't notice. Seriously I used a Dawkins and/or Lonzo anadized for
A couple yrs but never liked the amount of conditioning required. Some people sand them down to the bare aluminum, then these guys started making stoned aluminum surfaces and they are just more user friendly
To me. I like to pull a call out and go straight to work, not have to worry about conditioning.
Lonzo will have both, check them out and decide for yourself.
I'm not sure Dawkins will have calls for sale in Nashville. He and Lon are close friends, calls are very similar in sound.

Lonzo
Halloran
Hanks
My sleeper pic is Ghost Maker crystal/Osage. Fantastic call

Lots of good call makers there but those I've owned and would own again if somehow I lost all my calls

I'm not an aluminum guy personally more of a crystal and slate guy so those are the ones I know a lot more about

Lonzo is sharing a booth with Gods country outfitters. A few have told me that they didn't think he was there. He is there, just hiding out somewhat.
Wish I had known that! I didnt think he was there and wasn't looking for his calls.

I'm a huge Halloran fan can't go wrong with anything from him at all.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned Matt McLain but he builds as good as a call as you will find. His pots fit a hand like no other.
I played a ton of his calls today in different combinations and everyone was pure turkey. His prices at the show are dirt cheap to.
He got into my wallet pretty good today.
Love his Strikers by far my favorite.

A few of my favorite one piece strikers were turned by Matt, especially one black locust that is killer. He is a fine call maker, a fine gentleman, and a Tennessee boy to boot. Good job throwing his name in the mix TL.
