Post Season Bike Maintenance

I have the Specialized Rockhopper. My archery elk seasons are 60% mountain bike which usually includes a steep downhill ride back to the truck, @ 1K-1.5K feet down to sea level in a two mile stretch.

Between my trip in February, Scouting, and Hunting, my guess is 450 off road miles..

Disk Brakes get really hot on my bike which carries a Clydesdale-class rider, so in the process of changing tires, greasing bearings, changing brake pads, and bleeding brakes.

All the maintenance went well, I thought the bike was ready for Rifle-Deer season, but I found this leak.

Parts are O/O, I hope to get them soon.

Edit: rear bearings were a PITA..

Follow up: not being an expert, I found out after I replaced the brake lever that my model# of TekTro hydraulic brakes have a vent on the cap, and my set wasn't broken. The vent is above the diaphragm.

I left the new lever on the bike but I switched the lines so the rear brake is operated by the left side, and front by the right.

All bled and ready for the next ride.

Blacktail Rut really gets going the last week of October, so I think I'm ready.

Elk gear put away, BT gear packed.

Just curious as to why you switched which brake levers go to the front or back? Are you more used to a motorcycle? Just curious because I'm new to dirt bikes. I have ridden mountain bikes and my e-bike for years so now I find myself reaching for the front brake on the dirt bike all the time when I really want the rear. Trying to get used to the foot brake lol

My ATV is and my old racing bike (Specialized Hardrock) was rear brake left hand side with grip-shifters. Right side shift was the (XT) de-railer.

I hardly ever take my chain off the large front sprocket (bare teeth on the large sproket (edit for the grammar bullies, "sprocket") is for biting into & climbing obstacles like logs), but my right hand is always shifting the de-railer, even when rear braking.

It's really hard for me to shift & brake at the same time.

Love Specialized bikes. I don't ride like you do and never raced, but I have one that I like to play on. Best bikes ever in my opinion. My old Jammin' liked running with me when she was younger.
