Possible bedding area??

Quick question for the experts. I'm on a one Day hunt in an area unlike any I've ever hunted just outside of Monroe, Louisiana. Very thick undergrowth with lots of pines and small trees . It's is federal wma property and locally it's known for some really big bucks. I walked in yesterday to scout and nothing that I'm use to hunting in tn compares to this landscape. I did find one area tho where deer have been funneling thru, I found 3 piles of droppings and the area wreaks of deer urine.. I decided this where I would hunt.. been here all morning, haven't seen anything, but it still smells of deer urine. Do you think it's a bedding area? I don't see any places they have been laying here but there is alot of high grass and honestly they have cover everywhere.. the scent is really what's got me puzzled, never smelled it this way before... so at the risk of looking stupid I figured I'd ask other hunters.. thoughts?

As thick as it is, they probably bed anywhere. You may have hunted around some beds or where the deer were congregated, but probably pushed em out when you came in or they were bedded nearby and caught wind. Just a guess. I've been in a few spots that stank of deer too. Usually there's been a bunch of does laying around in there recently if it still stinks.

Ok thanks for the info... and yes I've never before smelled deer urine like this in the wild before I was checking my bag to make sure my scents hadn't spilt.... this is alot different than tn I can tell you that, it's so flat and the undergrowth is so thick, I'm in an opening inside the area and I can't see more than probably 20 yards in any direction. Very little to look at for an all day sit.. but my head is on a swivel bc they could come thru from literally any direction.. we have seen 4 does all day.. hopefully that changes soon.

I've smelled deer before but usually when I've been around active scrapes or walking upon a rutting buck I've just shot. From the sounds of it you're hunting an area much like 1/4 of our hunting acreage at Ames. As a general rule of thumb thick, impenetrable areas like that denote potential bedding areas but when you have so much of it combined with knowing they can and will bed anywhere it makes it hard to pinpoint just where. No doubt the deer seek refuge in those types of areas but they'll generally leave them on feeding forays. I'd look for that kind of sign.

I hunted in SE arkansas just north of there for years. We generally had best luck looking for the older hardwoods along the creek areas. Those thick pines are tough to do anything with unless you've got a feeder running.

Where at in SE Arkansas duckboy? In high school and a lot of undergrad, I lived in McGehee.
