Question for you Poser, since you live in Durango now..

While I don't want to jinx myself, do you know of any processors near bayfield/durango ? Last year we ended up taking our elk over to Pagosa Springs to get processed, and that was a pretty good haul. We were satisfied with the work though..

I was just wondering if anything was closer... If not, I bet you could make good chunk of change processing wild game in Durango or Bayfield area..

i don't remember exactly what I paid last year, but it was expensive. I think it was $500-$600 , but I had them cape my elk out, and had some specialty processing done.

I contacted the people from SunnySide, and they do not process wild game, but they did give me a contact for someone in Aztec, NM which is about an hour away from bayfield... I think everything in CO is about "1 hour away".

If I do get lucky this year, I may do my own cuts and just carry the grind meat to the processor.. I don't know how that would work though because of having to have proof of sex.

thx for the offer, but i'd hate to take up your time.. I don't mind driving over to pagosa springs, as its a beautiful drive anyway :) ..

last year it was way too warm to even think about butchering it myself, i'm hoping for cooler weather this year.

poser, you need to open a processing place in durango ! had to take our elk back to pagosa springs again this year (not that i am complaining) . he was absolutely slammed both days we dropped our elk off, and the days we picked them up..

Poser-
I'm thinking, maybe you could figure out a way to get some Premier cuts to the fancy-pants in Aspen, eh? In a place the size of Durango with no Butcher you might could be the next Bernard Kroger or Dario Chechini (spelled wrong for sure). Has to be some unused commercial space on the edges of town?

My experience in Craig was so bad I never went back to the processor there. From then on I cut my elk up and humped him in pieces to my truck. Bought 25 bucks of dry ice from Baskin Robins and put the pedal down for southern California. I always hunted first or second rifle season so it was generally cold enough.

I am thinking of a Cow elk hunt in NM north of Albuquerque for me and my twin boys next year. No way I'm paying for 3 cow elk to be butchered.
