Poll: Do you use trail cameras?

I've run cameras in the past and was thinking about skipping it this year. I used them extensively last year and got lots of pics, but I don't feel like they really help out for my property. My property is all soybean fields out near Ames with woods cutting through the property. Plenty of deer out there, but it seems like the ones I get on cam in the woods are never there when I am and the ones I have on cam near the fields never pop out in that area when I'm in the shoot house.

Any tips or tricks? Or just skip them and go hunt?

Use a total of 8 trail cameras on my property. Moultrie and stealth cams . Try to add at least one to two every year and find them very useful !

Looks like just about everyone does so I guess I'll keep it up this year. I've got 4 so I'm going to add one by each shoot house and one by my stand in the woods. Thanks all for voting!

Heck checking the cameras is one of my favorite parts Haha. I almost feel like I got him by getting his picture. Plus it makes the anticipation ten thousand times better when you're hearing those leaves come crunching behind you

I use them, but I don't rely on them. I like to see what's there but when those bachelor groups break up I hardly kill the deer that are on my cams.

Probably the number one reason more big bucks are being killed now than ever. Early season it makes it much easier to know when and where big bucks are going to be. During rest of season it allows the hunter to know which property he wants to hunt..."haven't seen any shooters on X property so I'm going to keep after the one over there". It also allows hunters to restrain from shooting that 110" buck when they have a 130-50" buck on camera too. They just pass the smaller buck. Hunters aren't any better at hunting and there really aren't any more big bucks than there were 10 years ago, but cameras allow for big buck hunters to be more selective and to know if there's even a big one around. I read all the stories. I'm in no way knocking cameras at all, but they do give a big advantage in killing big ones.

I like the surprise of not knowing what's there. I dont set out to target big bucks though, I just deer hunt, buck or doe fine by me.

I have a few, part of the fun is to see what all you get on the cameras, plus my grandson likes to see the pics.
