Polishing a barrel ?

Ok, I just read all 7 pages of how to polish a barrel from oldgobbler.com that some one posted on here a while back and have not found my answer. In the original instructions it says that some people do not recommend polishing over ports in the barrel. My question is why is this and what are some possible ill effects of doing so?

I am ready to do my 835 but want to know what might happen by going over the ports.

some of the ports are made to strip the wadding & help get a denser pattern.it could still go either way with any barrel.it may have enuf rough spots to shed the wad quickley with no help.i have seen the wad from 20' to 100'.a clean field & some onlookers can help finding them easier

The abrasive will quickly cut away the nice sharp edges around the ports, leaving larger, shallow, tapered openings.

Just make sure you use scotch brite over your brush. You can't avoid hitting the ports on like a 835 barrel. Just polish it like they aren't even there. You won't hurt a thing if you use the scotch brite and JB Bore Brite and Kroil. Heck I polished my chamber on my 835 and they say you aren't supposed too, and it shoots better than great. It won't hurt a thing as long as you use the scotch brite over the brush and the JB. Your just polishing not removing any steel.
