Polaris ATV trouble

I have a 97 Polaris Xplorer 300 that has started leaking gas through the overflow line. It is a 2 stroke engine. I removed the carb on Sat and tried to clean the parts, but was unsure of taking it apart completely. I did remove the jet (I think), but didn't see any grime. I squirted Carb cleaner fairly liberally through all of the ports, reassembled the carb and placed it back on the ATV. It started after a few turns, but was running at a high rpm, which I attributed to the carb cleaner. I shut it off and thought the problem was fixed, but after about 10-15 mins it started leaking again. any ideas out there?

Mine did the same thing, took the carb apart and cleaned it, removing the carmalized gas from everything. I also started turning off the fuel after getting off the machine.

Went out this morning and cleaned it again. It starts easily, but idles like a scalded dog. Probably have to take it to the shop. I've tried to adjust the air & idle screws, but to no avail.

There are no leaks that I can locate.

did you put the needle back in the same position after cleaning it?

If the needle jet clip is not in the same place as it was the idle will be hig. Check to make sure its all seated correctl.

Unicam, thanks for the diagram. When I removed the throttle body, I just slid it out, didn't pay a lot of attention as to the "needle position". I thought it just slide out and would slide back in to its original position. Are there any way to adjust the position? Dont remember seeing a needle jet clip. Thanks

Just unscrew the top again, make sure the spring is not bound and carefully put the slide and assy back in. Make sure the slide is going all the way down the carb throat as it can sometimes hang up in the groove. Might better check the groove on the slide to make sure the slot on it is not damaged or has a snag.

well try replaceing the float in it and that should fix it my 200 yamaha blaster did that and i took and replaced the float and took and bent the where the pin goes and never had a problem yet

if you havent fixed it yet and nothing they have said fixed it look and make sure the rubber tip on the float needle is still intacked . sometimes the tip will break off especially if it has been sitting for a while
