This dude was caught shooting deer at night on the Ross Barnett Reservoir spillway and other places last year.

70k+ in fines... that may deter future nere'do'wells.

Animal cruelty is a felony down here in MS. Big time serious.

Local guy got tired of a neighbors half mile away pit bull killing other dogs, goats, calves... he finally had enough and drove right into the pit's owners yard and blasted the pit dead.

Got arrested for animal cruelty... has not gone through the courts yet, and im sure all the surrounding folks will testify on the shooters behalf... but I think the shooter is screwed.

over $70k in fines and loss of hunting rights for three years ? all good, but... where is the jail time? nothing makes someone reconsider life decisions like a jail cell... they've been known to confiscate the vehicle used in commission of the crimes here.

Yeah, the cat got him. I don't like that they put him on pretrial diversion for it. If I understand that correctly, after he has paid his fine and served all his other sentencing, he won't have that felony on his record. With as many deer as charged/fined/plead guilty to, you'd think they'd have wanted that to stick on his record and keep him from buying a firearm so he can do it again later.

I thought using a suppressor used in a crime was federal charges? 3 years ain't nothing along with that fine. bet he kills more deer this year than most folks.

I bet he follows the straight and narrow... this wasn't some poacher that was targeting giant bucks illegally over a decade or more. Just a dumb young man with an underdeveloped frontal cortex who when nuts over the course of a few months stacking deer without regard to age or sex. Article doesn't say he lost his weapons, but I strongly suspect they were confiscated as well with the 77k fines. That WILL deter him from doing it again.

About time the penalties were harsh although 3 years from hunting doesn't seem like much. That $77k fine will hurt.
