Got JW his own deer rifle for his 16th Birthday...he really likes my 6.5x47 but nobody makes that in a deer rifle without buying an action and having a Custom bbl put on it so I ate my own words and got him a Rem 700 sps 6.5 Creedmoor and put a 3.5 10x50 leupold in Talley rings..

I ain't shot it yet but it handles well and should be a good hunting rifle for the kid..

Nice rifle and scope combo and much better than most rifles for a first deer rifle. Has the 6.5 taken the place of the .270 now? I prefer a little heavier bullet for good knockdown although a .260 can get the job done. Why did you choose the 6.5 out of curiosity?

Anymore I just do t thi k you need that much power to kill deer and the 130 gr 6.5 bullets at 2950 or so from a short action rifle only using 43 grains of powder is about imo as good as you can get.

It's a very good place on the trajectory foot pounds energy low recoil light handy rifle scale.

Definitely a flatter shooting rig compared with a 150 grain bullet traveling 2700 FPS. I killed deer with 130 grain and 140 grain bullets but until I went to 150, the knockdown wasn't there. Your faster bullet should help a lot with this giving more energy. I hope your son enjoys shooting his new rifle.

Shot three 2 shot groups just getting a zero at 250 yards and they were all between an inch and inch and a half...

That would do it. I just think its hilarious how people would hate a caliber just because another group of people tend to be overzealous about it.

It's by far the easiest round I've ever load for. Pretty much likes any weight and several powders. I'll take it all day long over a long action caliber. If I could only find some RL 26!

He was shootin yesterday and set jug at 414 yards....I made him a dope sheet and it called for 6.5 moa so he dialed it up and that's his cold bore shot ...maybe 2 or 3 inches right but he blew it up.

I am hoping to get access to another chronograph to verify, but this is what my chronograph showed my 26 Nosler pushes a 129 gr long range accubond. Actually had one load that 3792 fps. Bolt was just a tad sticky.

I got over 3500 with a 142 gr. long range accubond.


So far though, I can't get the 129's to group. It is a Nosler M48 rifle. Nosler said I would need to shoot at least 80 rounds before it would group the 129's. The 142's shoot great and I have killed several deer with them.

I have always thought about getting a 7mm-08. Great round for deer.
