Do any of yall hunt squirrel in May during the spring season? I know that it is during turkey season and the crappie spawn, but I figured some of still liked to hunt the tree rats. If so what are they feeding on that time of year? I have been told that you kill alot of squirrels during this time of the year due to the fact that the population is at its highest. Just curious if anyone hunted this time of year.

JB I do hunt squirrels some in the spring season but not alot. I don't care for the warmer weather but will go if I catch a good cooler morning etc. The classic food during this time is the mulberry. My grandaddy always liked to hunt them during mulberry time. We have a couple of mulberries on our place but between the squirrels and birds they don't last long. PH

I appreciate your response, I knew that if anyone had any ideas on what to look for in the spring you would be the one. I am just about finished with a build I am doing on a Ruger1022 and wanted to make it useful. By the way have you ever tried the Dynamit Nobel Target Rifle ammo for the 22? I had a person give me a box a half and told me to try them. So I will after the rest of my parts come in. JD

No I haven't ever used any of the Nobel .22 ammo but suspect it would be accurate. I use subsonic hollowpoints out of my 10/22 because they are quieter, accurate, and kill well. I use the Remington version because they are accurate enough and a lot cheaper than the lapua, rws, and eley. PH
