I have not been able to plant anything yet. I have heard in the past the end of May is an ideal time to plant. What could I plant now that would still have a good output? Would planting beans be effective this late in the year?

Sorry nothing specific probably just a blend of some type. Just wanted to make sure it wouldn't be a wasted effort. Any recommendations?

A couple additional comments. This will be a small plot 1/4 acre w/ questionable soil. It has not been treated with lime this year so looking for something versatile that can grow in non ideal soils.

Whitetail Institutes "Extreme" or "No Plow" or something similar should give you decent results. As BlountArrow said, it's not too late for beans and corn. I'd plant either until July 10 or 15. After that I'm always afraid frost will get the corn before it can mature.

Ditto what W.Seay said. Did that a couple of years ago. They sprouted, I fertilized when they were ankle high. I would say they got 12" tall and the next thing I know it looked like someone took a weed eater to them. They never saw opening day.

I planted 7 acres of beans total, 15 days ago. Biggest area together is about 4 acres. The beans are bout 6" tall and probably an acre overall has been demolished. 1/4 acre would be gone in no time. There are other large beanfields in my area, so I'm hoping they don't completely destroy all mine...We'll see.. I knew they would get some of em but that was a risk I was willing to take.

I got a bag to 'throw and grow' that has some turnips, clover and other brassica that has a mid Aug plant time frame - I just cleared out about 1/8 acre in the middle of the woods to toss it out - just waiting for the rain to stop :O
