August 15th is target date for jap millet in our area JB, but you already knew that

We are waiting as late as we can this year. Last year we planted earlier than usual (think we planted Sep 3 last year) and had a beautiful plot for about two weeks. THEN Armyworms/Cutworms literally demolished our 2 acre plot in a matter of days. We sprayed the little pests and salvaged what we could, but it was depressing as he!! to see the plot all but lost in the blink of an eye.

Wouldn't planting early to mid august give you good production for the end of September? i.e. turnips, clover. Just curious.

Sunshine,and I are going to be off the last week in august we have 3 plots to plant, clean out 7 shooting houses and spray for wasp, hang new posted signs, and then stay away until Sept 25.

Way to hot of a summer to be planting cool season annuals to early. Young cool season sprouts will burn quickly in this kinda heat if it picked up rain,.. then turned slightly dry.
Its gonna have to be labor day weekend for us to plant,.. but i think this year,. thats gonna be little early!!

I like to get mine in ground as soon as weather permits because when leaves start falling they cover mine up and growth is gone. Usually Aug. 15

Whenever the weather dictates. Last year we were planted by August 18 and had awesome plots, but also had record rain.
Has been as late as October before though....

I read somewhere years ago that more money was wasted on food plots Labor Day weekend than any other time!
