Planted some trees today

I had 8 white oaks and 8 pin oaks that were started in pots 3 years ago. I started them in a mix of pine bark mulch, sand and compost. Year 2 I sat them under a maple tree and did nothing for them, year 3 I sat them out in a fence row and let mother nature water them. They were budding out and I took them as hardened whips and set them out in area of old field overgrowth. If they survived being neglected in a pot for 2 years they should be fine.

how did the roots look after sitting in those pots for so long?

Bushy thruout the pot with a stool root that had found it's way out the drain holes but they were not long due to moving them. They got broken off.
