Food Plots Plant Day

Going to plant my plots tomorrow, calling for more rain Tuesday night into Wednesday here.... ground is a little heavy but I'm going with it.... I think we are in for an early fall this year..... Acorns are dropping like crazy here too......

I'm going to spread my fertilize on all three plots early and hit them with the disc.... probably start slinging seeds by lunch....

Took a while before I got started but it's done. Tractor was low on on fluid. Top link was seized lol. Just my luck. Had a cone spreader I was wanting to use at my pa's old place. It's my aunts but who knows when it was last used. Went to get it and found out it has no pto shaft. I'm sure it was in the barn but I was running out of time. Ended up using a hand spreader taking turns and finally while one was spreading I spread by hand. 100 pounds of wheat with 25 pounds of peas in the main plot. In the trail coming in I mixed 4 pounds ladino clover with 1/4 pound turnips. Main plot

Ending up taking my 9 year old, my 17 year old sister and 15 year old cousin. They all slept going home besides the cousin lol

I like your setup. I wish mine was surrounded better with woods. I have a lot of open ground before my plots but it's grown up fairly big.

yeah the close by cover works good....
you could always plant some tall cover in strategic spots......

I have plenty of growth. I'm hunting an 18 acre tract that is mostly field. Far from flat but it's over grown. A big majority of it is briars and weeds that are over my head. Hasn't been cut other than the road I put in and the food plot in 3-5 years. I've stood up on the tractor and couldn't see much more than what was right in front of me lol. It's thick. But I feel woods provide a better staging area. Last year I had deer cross the road where I planted the clover and they were hid when hit the tall grass. I've tried to cut some trails thru it but I'm not sure I can see them from the barn.

the picture included shows the property. I park at the north and have a trail that shows my path to the barn. The white lines are the main plot. The yellow is what I can see from the barn. I have salt lick kinda middle of picture. A bow stand is to the west. The southern most market is a stand that I just recently hung. It's facing WNW. I should be able to see most of that hillside. The picture also shows the trails I've cut. Vehicle access is only from the south.

a bigger view of what I'm working with. The property is more of a travel route. I do believe they bed in the field some but I know I'm not holding them. There's some beans to the west and a huge tract of hardwoods to east.

I hunt my parents farm. I don't know the full story but they won't sell to the Fitzgeralds. They border us on the right side. They've bought just about that end of the road both sides
