A friend of mine has some of the best looking tomatoes growing. He dug a 2 foot deep pit about 8' X 4'. He then laid a 4" PVC pipe capped at one end and drilled full of holes in the pit and attached an elbow that extended just above the ground. He then filled it with a mixture of dirt, manure, and corncobs and planted his tomatoes. When they need watering he just puts his water hose in the elbow extension above ground. His plants look great and are absolutely loaded with tomatoes.
