Pipes Question

Ok, I am going to say it... I have a Yamaha Vstar 650 - I WANT a Harley Deluxe...anyway, here is my question.

Black Velvet (bikes name) has standard pipes on it. If I change the pipes will I get a louder or different sound? If so, what kind?

I am sure there are after market pipes out there that will change the sound and tone over the stock pipes...

there are also things that you can do to your existing pipes to change the sound of them...opening up (drilling holes)in your rear baffles or even taking them out all togeather will change the sound of them....but if you cut down on the back pressure (exhaust flow restriction) to much you may have to change the jets in your carburator,(or make adjustments to your efi) other wise your pipes may start turning blue...which is no big deal...

Before you drill out your baffles, find a couple of VStar forums and see if it has been discussed. Some bikes do NOT sound good after having their baffles drilled, and usually the brand-specific boards will let you know if such is the case.

Define Sounds Good....

OL wants a louder and differant sound than what she has now....and so long as the motor isn't running to lean she can do it with she has already got...

One post I read about drilling out the baffles for one bike (not a VStar, I don't own a Yamaha) said, and I quote, "sounds like a$$" and was agreed to by other posters. I don't care how you spin it, that isn't good.

I'm not spinnin nothin friend....its just a cheap option that addresses OL original post...wether me or you either one likes the sound of it really doesn't make much differance does it...thats not our call now is it?....
the fact is....there ain't nothin you can do to a yamaha vstar to make it sound like a harley....

I'm not saying she should or should not do anything; I just think she might want to consult with those who have done the same thing, on the same bike, before taking the plunge.

remember, there are pipes out there that are manufactured with a divice that can be opened and shut depending on what you want- loud or quieter. mostly used for intown and then out of town noise restrictions/codes

Sounds pretty good.

the new fi harleys dont sound nothing like the carbed harley bikes IMO

Not a bad thing at all, I WANT a Harley. I just know that the Yamaha isnt going to sound like one.

I would love to change the gas milage and get a little louder.

whatever you do, DO NOT get a Sporty.
Just becouse your "vertically challenged" doesnt mean you need a the small bike. They are top heavy.
Look at a Duece or a Fat Boy, mabey the Deluxe. You can get the seats lowered and some other thingys to get it lower to the ground. With the balance that makes it more pleasurable to ride.

whatever you do, DO NOT get a Sporty.
Just becouse your "vertically challenged" doesnt mean you need a the small bike. They are top heavy.
Look at a Duece or a Fat Boy, mabey the Deluxe. You can get the seats lowered and some other thingys to get it lower to the ground. With the balance that makes it more pleasurable to ride.

The Deluxe is my dream bike, I really dont like the Sporty!
