All,

I have not had the best success rate after planting with the pine seedlings I get from the State of TN Division of Forestry. Does anyone have good experience with a pine seedling vendor and if so can you please share their POC information with me? Thanks.
 
There's plenty of places to get seedlings..

www.greenwoodnursery.com email Cheyrl or Indy. Ask them if they have the seedlings, if not.. they will have you on them within a few minutes.

I worked up there with them for the past several years, they are good people 2 deal with

that's suprising. I had very good results with them, I planted them within 2-3 days after recieving them.

I plant quickly as well. Just not happy with the success rate. I have also seen an increased number of seedlings come from them with the taproot growing C shape. Wanted to give another vendor's seedlings a shot and see how much luck I have. I just planted 500 pines from TN State last weekend and wanted to plant 500 from another vendor and do a comparison and see what happened.

Thanks Shane for the info, I'll give them a call.
 
Do you innoculate your trees before you plant the? also, do you fertilize at planting? Those two things in combination will greatly increase seedling survival.

Yes and Yes, I see the main problem being with the taproot on the ones I am getting not being straight up and down. To their credit, if you complain enough the state will send you replacements free of charge. It's just a hassle. I'm curious how their seedlings stack up to another vendor. I'll keep you all posted.

Just wanted to let everyone know I was very happy with the loblollies I received from plum creek trees! Got them planted about a month ago! Hope we do not have drought conditions this summer!
 
The loblollies I got from the state this year all had very good straight taproots on them, and the sawtooths were about 3 feet tall.
