Pillar Bedding

Does pillar bedding make a difference on moderate recoil rifles?

I am debating pillar bedding a 243 Remington 700 ADL shooting 95 grain partitions over 43.5 grains of RL19 in R-P cases and 210M primers. We also load it with some ballistic tip rounds for varmints but the recoil is much less.

The rifle has a laminated stock. Would bedding the recoil lug be necessary? Probably gonna do that no matter what, there is a tiny bit of damage to the lug area, stock came that way.

The 243 is consistently under 3/4 inch and I do not want this accuracy to diminish.

I have never bedded a rifle and hurt the accuracy. Using a wood stock without pillars, you can never have a consistent torque on the action screws.

Gonna be hard pressed to improve on 3/4, but pillar bedding won't hurt any. While you have it apart and mixing epoxy or whatever youre using, might as well bed the action, lug and maybe an inch or so passed it.

I always bed the lug on the rear only. You`ll want clearance on the sides, front and bottom.
