I just got back from Pickwick. I fished Saturday-Wednesday always in Bluff Creek.

Saturday, I fished nightcrawlers around rock walls. I caught three channel cats and two bream. The water was up two foot over summer pool and falling fast.

Sunday, I fished prepared baits in 5-10 foot of water off a cut bank with a gravel bottom. The lake was up a foot over summer pool and falling fast. I caught 15-20 channel cats from 10:00 am to Noon. I caught them on Sonny's Dip Bait and CJ's Monster Bait . On the bottom or under a float, it didn't matter.

Monday, I fished the same spot with prepared baits and caught 15-20 again. The lake was back down to summer pool and steady.

Tuesday, the fish disappeared. I fished hard from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm and managed to catch five. I just could not find a concentration of fish. The most I caught in one spot was two. I fished prepared baits and red worms both under a float and drifting a few feet off bottom.

Wednesday, the fish were still scattered, but I found one spot along a deep concrete wall where I caught 5-7 fish.

Of the fish I caught, I kept and cleaned 23 fish. Most fish were 1-2 lbs. Big fish was 5 lbs. I released 1/2 the fish I caught because they were too small to make good fillets.

Here is my observation and question. Of the thirteen fish I kept on Saturday and Sunday a number of them had eggs. Of the ten fish I kept Monday-Wednesday none of them had eggs. Did the fish become scattered and hard to find on Tuesday because they were holed up somewhere spawning?

Another observation, when fishing a new spot, if you didn't get a bite in two minutes on the first cast it was time to move on.

I do not normally wait around to long. And channel cats like to spawn on rip-rap so if you were fishing rock walls, that is where they should be. I have been fishing from 33-46 ft of water to catch most of my cats lately. Been on pretty good concentrations of them. This is on the river side below Pickwick Dam.
