Bgoodman30. We can only hunt til 3pm. Sorry I said all day but it's a 3pm cut off
No doubt about it, being on the X trumps all. If you are where they want to be you can use a kazoo and a milk jug.We have been steady, 30s atleast 2 days a week. Yesterday killed in the 30s and never touch a duck call all day. That's a big factor that's over looked by some people imo ( if your hunting traffic that's different, we are hunting flooded corn ducks are coming to eat). New birds around you can call at them but with as many stale birds that are around, we never touch a call. Just a drake whistle every now and again works great.
I drove from Memphis to the MO Bootheel & back yesterday. Bluebird day, no clouds most of the way. Usually, I can count on seeing ducks in the flooded fields, clouds of geese everywhere, and high-flyers on the move.AR duck surveys were released today. It's bad.
That's depressing.I drove from Memphis to the MO Bootheel & back yesterday. Bluebird day, no clouds most of the way. Usually, I can count on seeing ducks in the flooded fields, clouds of geese everywhere, and high-flyers on the move.
Except for a small flock of snows outside West Memphis, there wasn't squat.
This reminds me of last year about this time, the great question where the hell are they? Forbes last survey showed that a lot of ducks moved out of their area which is mid latitude- IL & MO. Already talked about the AR survey, they don't seem to be there... so are they hanging on the gulf coast? Did they push back up north? Last couple years there's been so much water you could at least buy the argument they were spread out all over creation but that's certainly not the case this year. I don't have any answers. I'll keep going whenever I can but I'm not going out of my way or burning a bunch of PTO to get after em.
Oklahoma has been hammering birds this year. That's a very strong possibilityReckon they jumped flyways? Hanging out over in NE, KS & OK? Habitat to pressure ratio has to be better over there than the heart of the MS flyway, no?
The state of this duck season about on par with the state of the Tennessee Football program. After a short window of glory Friday afternoon it all came crashing down again. I saw no indication of new ducks and the ones here are as stale as I have ever seen.. I have come to terms that this season is over and it ain't gonna get better. I guess now I can get those Christmas lights down...
