Picking up my new toy Monday

Sick and tired of spending almost $100 every 5 days for gas.
Went the cheapest route (almost) possible.
Ain't cool and ain't hip I don't suppose but filling it up will hurt ALOT less.

Gonna go do all the "stuff" tomorrow at lunch, but will have to wait till Monday to pick it up because I am going camping tomorrow afternoon. ;)

My wife used to have a Virago 250 and I rode it quite a bit while she was at work or gone to the store and couldn't catch me. Those things are surprisingly peppy for a 250 and handle better than most cruisers out there. It handled way better than my Illusion softail. Thing almost never needed gas, probably close to 70 mpg. I took my 18 yr old neice for rides a few times and it did fine with a passenger too. She paid $2100 for it used with about 1100 miles and sold it a couple years later for $1800. Works out to $150/yr rental basically.

Cool. Just for the record, my last tankful I got 48 mpg. And I'm riding a 1300.

I have been riding the heck out of mine and love it!!! I'll have to cruise down to SF some time and we can take a little road trip.

By the way, what exactly did you get? Is is a Yamaha V Star?

That is good to hear hogbear. I was kinda worried about how much power it would have. I know one thing, I went over there to buy the Honda Rebel and I must say that was THE most uncomfortable bike I have ever sat on. It fit man pretty good though.
BigGun, I had a Dyna superglide picked out and was about ready to sign the papers and decided to go the cheapest route possible. Plus since it has been a while since I rode a street bike, figured that would be a good way to wade off in there.
Yeah msufinprof, it is a Yamaha V Star 250.
From a comfort and looks department it blew the Honda out of the water in my opinion. Look forward to following you around. (Notice follow) ;)
I know I will probably take alot of heat for the size and all but every Friday when I am going to go fishing or play golf instead of putting 100 bucks in my truck I will just chuckle to myself and buzz on down the road. :D

Thanks big8's but it is a done deal. They had a used one JUST like the one I bought with 1,100 miles on it but I just would rather have the first fart on the seat. :D

Her only concerns were, she said she will be worried about me riding it to and from work and she said she thought I wanted a harley.
I told her I was buying it out of need rather than want.
She came back with the fact that I can always get a harley later. :D

LOL at first to fart, and the trained woman,good stuff. Congrats and I think that was a wiser choice with what we had talked about. I think you will be able to get your money back out of this investment about anytime you choose, rather then the alternative choice you had in mind :)

Congrats. I can't convince my wife that I need one. She's so afraid I'd get killed on one and then throws out the "you have 2 kids to think about" card. It doesn't help that a coworkers son was killed on a crotch rocket last fall almost right in front of our house. A guy I work with has a VStar 1100 (I think) and is going to sell it so he says. He bought a Harley last year and it's just been sitting in his garage and I'd love to buy it. I just put $94 into my gas tank this morning so I feel your pain.

Watch the fillups...they are a killer. Spent $13.50 on Saturday filling my V Star 1100 Classic....just love it!!!! Bought it this spring and it is a 2001 model with 25,000 miles, but the thing runs great and the previous owner took great care of it. Man, I am ready to go ride right now.

Ruger...you may want to find some sort of storage system...saddlebags, a duffle you can strap to the seat, etc. I found out real quick I could only stuff so much stuff in my pockets!!!! If you are looking for any type of accessories Ebay is the place to go. You can save A LOT of money over dealer prices.

My truck is sitting in the driveway and hasn't been started since Sunday. It wouldn't have been started Sunday if I didn't have to get to Church an hour and a half early and haul my guitar.

It would cost me $106/week to drive my truck to work every day. It costs me about $24.77 to take my Electra Glide. I bought my bikes back when the economy was booming so I already had one. If I didn't I would buy an inexpensive bike not a car. My truck is paid for and it wouldn't make any sense to unload it and buy a used car that I knew nothing about and make pmts on top of that. Or, even worse, buy a brand new hybrid and make a huge monthly pmt for very little gas savings. It would take forever to make your money back if you did it solely to save on gas.

A bike is the ticket.

I have a Vstar classic 650 and I love it. I am close to 50mpg on it as well. The good news is there are A LOT of bikes out now-a-days and people are paying more attention to them.

I am sure you are right and if I would have slowed down just a little and looked at the figures a little closer I would have gotten the 650 Shadow this time.
