I used to live in Clarksville TN for many years. I now live in ND for past 3 years. Anyway, I want to let anyone know who might interested. There is an abundance of Pheasants the DNR counted calls. It seems the population has exploded. Highest counts in more than a decade. I see them running everywhere! Gonna be some GOOD bird hunting this year.

Man that would be fun with a couple Labs.
Maybe me and some of the guys down here can "acquire" a school bus, load it up with hillbillies and shotguns and head north!
Got a big enough driveway?

I miss pheasant hunting.
 
I hunted pheasants in Nebraska and when a bunny hopped out my hillbilly reflexes popped that sucker without hesitation. Man you'd have thought I shot the dog lol The other hunters, especially the dog handler threw the biggest fit. They said I was teaching the dogs to chase rabbits. Of course the dogs never chased any rabbits but I was still the low down hillbilly Rosie O'Donnell who shoots bunnies lol Truth be told the rabbits tasted better than the birds.
 
When I was in Kansas this spring, I've never seen so many pheasants. They were on the decline for years, but look like they are making a comeback.

My inlaws have property in Kansas. Those dudes gave me a HUGE Winchester Pump action with a 30 inch barrel and a full choke. I was in good shape back then, but that thing was heavy. My parents sent my little 20 gauge with a modified choke. I was slaying pheasants like they were going out of style. So much lighter and I didn't have to wait until it got out there at 30 yards to shoot.
 
I had a uncle who would go to ND every year to hunt them, I still remember spitting #4 shot out while eating them, he went rabbit hunting with me and step father 1 time, seen him unload his sweet16 at 1 we kicked up in a dead garden, missed it every shot and SF popped it with my little 20g after he ran out of shells. Not sure if he was any better on birds 🤣 ,lived in Mi up until I was about 11 and I was the bird fetcher, dogs would point but not retrieve. Was glad when we came home to Tn for the last time in about 72.
 
Brother lives in SD, been several times. When it's good, it's a blast for sure, and yes lots of walking. Road hunting is legal too, as long as bird is in R.OW., doesn't matter if public or private land. If it falls across fence onto private it's legal to cross over & retrieve bird.
Flew into Pierre once the day before opener and Air Force 2 was sitting off to the side. Richard Cheney was there for the Governor's annual opener shindig at the Ramkota Inn. Only airport I've seen with kennels for dogs & separate carousel for shotguns.

When I was in high school, graduated in 1972 from Andes Central HS in Lake Andes, SD there were alot of pheasants. I mean a lot. More than you can believe. Many stores would have contests to see who could bring in the longest tail feather off a rooster.

I thought I would share this decal off one of my pickup trucks.
