Pheasants

Good question. Not that I know of in East Tn. I've always heard that they can't reproduce in our region, something about a mineral in the soil makes their eggs brittle. I wish there would be a release of them like they do in Ohio and other states.

Funny this thread came up, my buddy sent me a pic of a strange bird sitting on the side of the road in south knoxville near seymour. Sure enough the pics confirmed a male ringneck. I still have not been able to see one. Ive known quite a few people that woud raise them and release them for fun. I assume their life span running around in the wild around here would be quite slim. Pretty birds.
about 2 years ago in big south fork,there is some big fields that I rabbit hunt pretty regular,On several occasions I was jumping ring neck pheasants.And even on one day just driving past them I seen one on the side of the road alieve.I think someone was turning them loose or something.I've never seen anymore.
Used to be a pay hunt pheasant operation there but the old man passed on. Killed alot back when it was in full swing, just from those that had got outside of his farm.cecil30-30 said:

Yes, but it was way back in the 60s. The released birds would survive fairly well, but would not reproduce.

wouldn't it be technically illegal to kill a pheasant here since there is no season for them? Not saying I would't jump at the chance in the rare case I came across one....or is it only illegal for indigenous nongame animals?

You may only shoot a ring-necked pheasant in TN if it is facing imminent threat from a mountain lion. =)
And should you come across such a scenario - try to take them both!
(The pheasant will be better on the table, though.)

my grandpa realeased many of them in the 40's or 50's....they cant surevive here and what i remmeber was that the soil or somthing to that effect wasnt right.....at least that is what my mom remembers saying that grandpa said. nove surevived but he turned many loose.
