pheasant in tn?

i was walking one of my properties in shelby co this morning,only went because it was snowing,jumped a few rabbits and as usual i had my shotgun on my shoulder,i then started "rabbit hunting",was walking through some tall grass on a slight hill,and i heard what sounded like quail flushing,first shot,down it went,took aim on the other one and emptied my gun,nothing to mark where it landed,i looked for 20 minutes wishing i had my catahoula with me,she will find and bring back anything that falls,i finally walked up on the bird,ummm thats not a quail!took a pic and sent it to my dad asking what it was,he didnt know,never laying eyes on a grouse,i put it in my vest.got home a looked on the net,couldnt find anything looking even close to what i had shot.and not knowing the limit on whatever it was,i must have jumped 20 or so of these birds but not knowing the limit didnt shoot.found out later from a friend it was a hen pheasant.anybody know the limit or laws on these birds in tn?or are there even any at all?heres a pic of a hill bunny and the hen pheasant.guess ill be back out there in the morning.

it would be illegal to shoot the pheasant when not on a preserve,tn law sez if no set season its a protected critter,kinda like shooting a mountain lion,nice to have the fame but bad to have the ticket ,mike243

Could just be missing livestock from a neighbors farm. Probably better go pay him for his loss... I hear they are good eatin.

Last year I was jumped some pheasant regularly on some BSF land that I rabbit hunt..I believe someone was turning them loose.

there are alot of these birds on my property,we jumped over 20 today while rabbit hunting,7 rabbits and 1 field mouse that was an innocent bystander.

I would say definitely not wild but set loose by somebody. I killed a hen back when I was probably 14-15 right behind a neighborhood in Bartlett. Funny how you never see roosters but after hunting in Kansas it's the hens you flush, the roosters will run on you until they have no other choice.
