I know that persimmons are a good attractant food for deer, but
are they like corn, where it's just a carb or energy fix. I was
just wondering if there might be some mineral or other health
benefit to deer, in the way of persimmons?

I don't know if a TWRA biologist might have an answer or maybe
someone like BSK might know.

I have several of these trees on my property that produce almost
every year, and the deer really love the fruit.

No big deal, but I am always curious.

Persimmons have an abundance of vitamins and amino acids like many fruits. Persimmons are high in glucose which is supposedly good for cognitive thought. That's why your bucks are so smart. :D They (like corn) are high in carbs. They also contain alot of water and have a good amount of protein. Seed dispersion is critical to the persimmons survival and they have become pretty clever at developing a fruit that is sought after by so many mammals. Truly a gift from up above.

all of our persimmons held on to their fruit until just recently. the ground is littered with last years dried up persimmons that were finally pushed off by the new growth.

sorry, that don't answer your question.

I have 3 that are loaded to point of I'm worrying about limbs breaking. I also grew about 10 saplings from seeds leftover last fall after the deer munched and discarded the seeds. ;)

Our trees were loaded with this year's fruit, most of which is now on the ground(along with numerous trees) after our world class thunderstorm last week.
