persimmon ?

Ok so are there more than one variety of wild persimmons? There are 4 trees in a hedge out behind where i work and i ate a few the other night and got the seeds, they were short and black. Yesterday i went to my hunting lease and walked to another tree i found the other day and eat a few to get the seed. The latter tree mentioned, had much bigger fruit and the seed were different. Heres a comparison of the two.

Different genetics, not all trees are identical. Seen the same in hickory nuts. Different sizes and shapes among the same species in different areas.

I have two varieties. I believe common and American.

I'm interested in planting a couple out on our land. I just wonder which type to plant and when. It would be nice to have on the outskirt of my food plot. Plus I wouldn't mind the wife making some persimmon jelly!

I can tell distinct differences in the bark, growth form, and fruit characteristics of seemingly 2 different varieties in my county. However they are both Diospyros virginiana. Common names of American Persimmon, Common Persimmon, Eastern Persimmon, etc. Taxonomists say they are the same tree with some genetic differences. That is a very fine line that often gets taken to far with some plants and maybe not far enough with others. Whats the right answer? who knows lol

I'm not a taxonomist but that's exactly what I think when I see variations in characteristics of different plants of the same species. I figure it's just like people, deer, or any other organism for that matter. They aren't all clones and there are different "races" or varieties or whatever term you want to use...
