Persimmon question

If an American persimmon tree gets cut back to the roots, will the tree regenerate or sprout again from the roots?

We have alot of them where I hunt , I was thinking about picking up some of the seeds and planting them just to see what they do . Any one else tryed it ?

On my lease ther are a lot of persimmon trees in every stage of growth and for sure no one is planting them. I would imagine you could pick up the fallen fruit and plant them with a lot of success. If they can fall off a tree and sprout, some on-purpose effort should have good results.

I do believe it is a number of years before they bear fruit....I wonder if taking care of them would have a faster result?

I picked up about 300 or so seeds from the ground...this year's fall. Got them in the fridge in wet napkins...in a ziplock. The way it was explained to me... 3 months and they should start sprouting. Plant to pots about 2 inches deep. Grow them in pots for the first year and then transplant in the dead of winter next year.

Last buck I killed this year was a bit of an experience for me. For purely scientific reasons, I decided to see what he had been eating. Poor fella had to be somewhat constipated with all the persimmon seeds in him. Made up my mind right there. I plan on being called "Mikey Persimmon Seed" from now on.

I believe it is about a 4 or 5 year project to see good fruit.

I just stick them in the flower bed or a pot with soil. Most of them come up in the spring. I raised 12 of 12 2 years ago. Planted them this fall.

Persimmons are cheap as bare root trees,maybe $80 per 100 trees.You get an awesome tree at that price and you are a year ahead of the game.I personally plant my bare root persimmons 2 trees at a time spaced about a dibble bar blade apart.They still fit inside a tree pro tube that way and are protected for a good long time and have better vertical growth.Give them a lot of light.
