Persimmom Seeds now Trees

I found some persimmon seeds in coyote poop back in �09. I �stratified� fifteen seeds in the fridge for about three months, then planted them in little containers next to a window in my closet for another few months. I then transplanted the 6-inch trees to the back of my property. Well, I�ve got nine persimmon trees now. Kind of cool.

I've been meaning to do the same thing for years but never got around to it. Maybe this will be the year.

Although I didn't know if they'd make it, I tried to plant them where I wanted them permanently. I'm fine with where they are now. BTW, I did put chicken wire around them until they were a couple feet tall.

We have tons of them on our property...but the deer/critters always get to them. I need to transplant a couple to a place where the deer can't get them

Do a little research on the internet to make sure I've got this right. I put the seeds in a dish surrounded by wet paper towel for maybe three months. Keep them moist. Supposedly, this "stratifies" the seed. Then, I transferred them to small pots and put them near a window until they grew to about five or six inches.

In early fall, I transferred them to the yard and protected them with chicken wire. They like as much sun as you can give them.

You can plant them in the fall in a furrow, mulch w/sawdust. mother nature will chill them.

This post just reminded me,that I have a gallon size freezer bag of these,that I put in the freezer last August. Do you think these would still be any good to use? I have 4 trees hanging full at my parents house,so I can get fresh ones,if I need to.

I don't know for sure, but I imagine seeds get frozen in nature and do just fine.

This is "sort of" off subject, but the fruit on my persimmon tree is HUGE this year. Must of been all the rain.
