Each property has its own potential, but in general Perry has good hunting for both.
If you do indeed get a property in western Perry county, I'd like to hear your feedback on the turkey population. I hunted that area a good bit in the early 2000s when there was A LOT of public land, and the turkey population was exploding. Riding through those same hills and hollows today does not suggest near the turkey population that it did 15 years ago. That is anecdotal evidence, but I would bet the population has really declined in the last decade, which can be said for a lot of areas, not just western Perry county.
I own a place in Perry cty near Lewis. Very good turkey hunting and decent deer hunting. All the hardwood has been logged around me except mine and I have grown 10 acres of food plots for 6 yrs. I've never shot a buck off of it in the 12 yrs I've owned it. Gotten great trail cam pics over the yrs just never saw what I was looking for while hunting. A 170 " deer was killed last yr near me and I've found some really nice sheds.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm looking for a place where the kids can consistently see deer and shoot a doe. And where I can have a few nice bucks on camera to keep me motivated. I can buy 4 times as much land in Perry than I can in middle TN for the same price. I was in a Lewis/Perry County lease in 2008 after a bad EHD outbreak and couldn't see a deer.
What road / area was your lease on? 2008 did get a lot of deer at my place. I'm still not killing anything until I'm seeing consistent more numbers. I've been doing a camera survey count for 2 yrs and I feel they are getting good again. I wished I could get my coyote numbers under control.

We have a very small place on the western edge, right on the river. The deer hunting there around our place has been pretty poor as long as I can remember, at least 15 years. I have VERY rarely hunted it because of the very few deer. The lack of any kind of TWRA presence and the lack of any other kind of law enforcement has bred the most brazen road hunting and trespassing I have ever witnessed. The deer simply do not have a chance. In a good 3 year period that my family gave it a solid shot when we had private access to 800+ acres we managed to kill two does and two little bucks. I have ridden ATV's since I was a kid over miles and miles and miles of those old logging roads and I can't think of one time in my life I have seen a 3.5 buck there. If this tells you anything, my grandfather had access to hundreds of those acres throughout his lifetime, and when he hunted down there he would go hunt the public Willamette land a couple miles up the road.
Perry County has been my first experience hunting TN coming from north alabama. We got a place last minute near the river close to Linden and have seen great quality deer compared to what we are used to. Also earlier in rhe season consistently saw some of the most intense rut action that me and my buddy have ever witnessed in our years of hunting. Might just be there ain't no deer in Alabama but Hey perry county wasn't to bad to us this year. None killed but as far as deer density and quality of mature bucks it's been pretty impressive.
