For those who mix your own permethrin solution to treat clothing, what kind do you use and what mix ratio do you use?

Martin's 10% , the water based kind that don't stink. Mix is 1 part Martin's and 15 parts water = dead ticks and chiggers.
The most recent Martin's I picked up was 13%, so I mix it 1:20. Don't leave home without it!

I like mine around 0.75%. I need to retreat all my stuff I treated back on Mar 13th. Been washed 4 or 5 x since then, so I'm sure it's wearing off. Still, not a single tick or chigger on me so far this year! Amazing stuff!
Is it the stinky kind? The kind I get has a pic of a silo and some stuff on it.

I have wondered about mixing up some using the stuff from tractor supply, Much cheaper than what the sporting goods stores sell.
I honestly don't know if it has petroleum or not. Will have to check.

Gordon's is petroleum based and has a smell. I also found it to be not very effective.
Martins 10% non-petroleum based mixed 1 oz to 16 oz of water. I bought a small pump sprayer that's around 30 to 40 oz off of Amazon and use it to apply.

Ranger Ready sells a 0.5% mix on Amazon for $17.99 for 24 oz. I just buy that anymore instead of mixing.

That's what I use. I mixed my own once, accurately down to the drop. I soaked my clothes, let them dry a couple days, then wore them turkey hunting. I had ticks crawling on my freshly treated clothes. Granted this was with Gordon's. I went back to Sawyer's and never looked back. Not as cheap as mixing your own, but I KNOW when I use Sawyer's I won't find a tick on me.

All i will use because it works!!! If it cost three times as much im buying it, havnt had a tick since i started using it years ago
Ditto! Exactly what I do with exact same product. I buy at local CO-OP or Stockdales if you have those in your area. Pre-treat day before and let the product dry to provide maximum protection and defense.

It doesn't exactly stink, but it's not a smell I want to smell hour after hour for days and weeks. My main complaint was the first day I had ticks crawling on my pants like they weren't treated. Maybe I got a bad batch.
No telling what happened. I saturate the fire out of them and just did so to my pants and shirts after reading this thread. I spray down my vest also. I hate em!
I've done the 10% Martin thing for a good while and I watched a tick one time crawl up my leg and by the time he got above my knee he started going in circles then a min later his legs kinda curled up underneath him and he just sat there till I flicked him off.

Ticks get all over your clothes. Permethrin isn't a repellant like DEET. But they are dead within 10 to 15 seconds and just fall off well before they have time to find an opening and attach.It doesn't exactly stink, but it's not a smell I want to smell hour after hour for days and weeks. Mosquitoes land on your thin shirts, bite you thru the thin stuff, then fall off dead. You get a tiny welp from the short bite, but you don't get the giant welps from one sucking on you for 60 seconds.
I like the chemical smell... its how I know it's time to retreat. When I start losing the faint odor, I'm figuring its time for another dowsing.
That's the thing. They walked around for minutes with no adverse effects. I've never seen that with Sawyer's.

Def was a bad batch. I have 10% Martin's and 36.8% agrisel zone plus.
Been using the same bottle 36.8% agrisel for past 6 or 7 years, and it hasn't gone bad. Only takes 2oz of that comcentrated stuff per gallon of water. Think I paid $20 for 32oz bottle, so it makes 16 gallons... so a little over $1.50 per gallon.

Here are some mixes I have saved. I use Martins 10% at the .50% concentrations if just passing through the woods, if I plan on sitting in the woods (camping or hunting) then I up it to the .76%. I always mix it by the gallon in a sprayer, lay out all my hunting clothes and spray them liberally, then let air dry. I save some in a small spray bottle to spray things I need to get or keep bugs off of, such as the tent openings and window nets/vents.

Found the tall cans on clearance at Wally World. If I ever go through that god foresaken place I always check the clearance aisle. Works for me. Only been using for a year or two used to wear bug skinz.

I mix to a full 1%. Have done so for years. I use the permithren from co-op. It's 36.8%. It doesn't take much but smells like diesel. It doesn't bother me and the smell fades quickly. Turkeys don't wind you so no issues there.
For deer season I use happy jacks kennel dip 2. Doesn't really have a smell and is 17%.
Mix varies by the % permithren you want I.e. .5, .75, 1%.

I just use Sawyers, and I only use it on my leafy suit not anything that touches my skin. Has a bad experience with it on my skin when we sprayed our uniforms down before invading Iraq in 2003. Granted I don't know where it came from or how strong it was. They just handed us some clear garden sprayers already filled and said soak out uniforms and let them dry and we were good to go. Well I was not good to go. Didnt have to go back to the rear or anything but it felt like my skin was on fire. Plus the fact that after a few days I ran out of underoos because my ruck sack got destroyed I had no barrier between pants and the old twig and berries. Sorry for the long drawn out story, but everytime I hear or use the stuff I think about it.
