I have 217 acres and I have 3 trail cams running. What percentage of bucks that use my property do I get on camera. The reason I ask is all I seem to catch is 1 1/2's and a nice 2 1/2 year old. I have found 6 fresh rubs and after reading the earlier post about early rubs, I am wondering if I have an older buck on the farm.
 
My experience is once they reach 3.5 years old i very seldom get a pic of them again.I pull my cameras before the rut.They may show up then but by then i'm in my funnels waiting for em.Dont want to stink up the area looking for pics.I'm ready to see the real thing.
 
Yep it depends on what you set cams up on. I used to set it on salt licks and such . Always had smaller deer. Swapped to thick funnels and fields edges and each week I have at least couple nice ones. On my farm its hard to catch big ones twice. Buy ever since I swapped to ir cams I've had more success

Unfortunately, it's impossible to say. So much depends on the number of cameras, the type of cameras, how the cameras are checked, and especially where the cameras are placed. Running cameras effectively is a learned skill.

The only way to know what percent of the bucks using a property are captured by camera is to keep track of the percent of bucks harvested or seen that have been previously captured by camera. In essence, if 75% of harvested or seen bucks have previously appeared on camera, you are probably capturing around 75% of bucks on camera. Although A LOT of harvest/observation data is required to produce a statistically valid sample.
 
I have recently moved my cameras off mineral sites to travel corridors so maybe that will help. My property has a lot of woven wire fencing which makes it a lot easier identifying crossings and travel routes. I also hang my cameras at least 8-10 feet of the ground to help camouflage them and I do not use white flash cameras. I just want to make sure I have a good buck on the property. I hope the fresh rubs I found are a good indicator that I do.
