what is the difference bewteen whitehots, triplesevens and pryodex pellets? smoke,cleaning, how it shoots and anything else

Slightly different ingrediants but all contain potassium perchlorate which will rot the bore of your gun if not immediately cleaned.

I've heard mixed reviews on white hots, 777 is the hottest, and pyrodex is the old standby. Of course, with pellets your path for developing a load is narrow.

Personally, I like and use real black powder and think it's better than any of the above.....just my opinion. A friend of mine has done quite a bit of testing with these substitutes and real black. According to him, Swiss black is as hot as 777.

Western Powder has no doubt made a major coup in their development of BH209 but I think we're comparing apples and oranges here. With it's nitrate ester base it's practically a smokeless powder and needs a rather hot 209 primer to effectively ignite it.

or just a tiny amount of BP-Sub powder under the nipple. That works reeeal good in a sidelock!

I kinda figured that might work, but it seems like a lotta trouble to me.

One last thing....Western touts their BH209 as non-corrosive. Independent analysis, however, indicated the presence of potassium nitrate and sulfur. Now, when these two burn together they form compounds that can react with the humidity in the air to form sulfuric acid. I understand that BH209 burns very clean but I wouldn't let that lull me into not cleaning my gun.
