Great day on the water! Low winds, so I could fish anywhere finally! Plus fairly clean water with good salinity!!!
I picked up my PB Trout at sunrise on topwater (Rapala Skitterwalk) under glass minnows. I thought it was a trout when he hit, but it fought just like a gafftop digging for the bottom with no head shakes. I forced her up, but when she surfaced and I realized it was a gator trout, I backed off the drag and took my time with her. 25.25in! (Thats a TOAD in MS... like catching a 10lb bass in TN). Got a good release on her to make some more baby Trout.
Had another even bigger than the one I caught come 3/4 out of the water on the bait, but she missed it. Im guessing 26 to 27in... just crazy.
Trout were either too short or too long (must be 15in to keep, and I usually release everything over 20) and my box was empty, so I decided to keep a few borderline 20in ers after the topwater bite died down and I switched to a floating jerkbait.
Headed back deep in the marsh to sightfish reds, but I guess the heavy rain last night made the water too muddy to sightfish.
Went back to the sound and picked up some more Trout, reds, and flounder on the jerkbait.
In all I kept 3 Trout just under 20in each (released another 20 including the big girl), 2 lower end slot reds (my favorite to eat) and released 2 more, and 6 flounder (released 2 more).
Box shot was before adding another Trout and 2 more flounder. Going to be eating good next couple days!
