Finally got eat at Payne's BBQ on Lamar. I had the large chopped with the mustard slaw and the wife had the baloney with m slaw. Both were all I had been told and then some. They give you a fork and knife to eat the large sandwich and you will need it. No way to pick that big boy up without losing some meat. The bbq was a great mix of meat and bark.

The mustard slaw is the best ever. Just right sweet/hot tatse combination.

We also split an order of beans. They were some of the best I've had in Memphis.

Only thing they need is a couple of more fans to cool customers off that order the hot.

Will be back and thanks Buckwild for recomending Payne's

You know what's really disappointing? Pulling into the parking lot, and THEN remembering that they are closed on Mondays.

I'll have to try again on a day they are actually open...

On the good side, I tried out Soul Fish Cafe on Cooper, and thought it was quite tasty food. A few dollars more than I would normally spend on a lunch, but I enjoyed the blackened catfish, sweet potato fries, and corn bread. Fun place, good portions, good service in spite of being busy, and the counter top is a bunch of fishing lures set in an epoxy/resin.

They've got one out here in Germantown, too. WAYYY too expensive for what it is, but it's one of my only good options out here.

I tried the germantown commisary bbq when is out there working. Liked it better than rondevous. I'd love to take the wife to Memphis just to eat but its a little to far from knoxville just to eat. Some dog gone good food that Memphis has.

I was fortunate enough to eat there for lunch today and meet buckwild.

I had a chopped pork sandwich. First of all, it was a large sandwich and must be eaten with a fork. I took a sample of some meat without any sauce on it. The meat was very moist and had a great flavor, I got a hint of apple, they may spritz shoulders with juice or something. I thought it had an excellent taste. The sandwich itself with the sauce was wonderful. The sauce complimented the meat well. My sandwich had a good mix of bark.

I can see why I have heard so much about Payne's. It was the best sandwich I've had in a while.

Those Memphis boys are lucky. I would be a frequent customer there if I was close.
