Parking at yuchi

I want to say first thank you all for the information and to all that were willing to go out with me and unfortunately work decided that my travel season be extended, all on the forum are great. My hunt is coming up this weekend and I've been up there and looked around minimally, and I was needing to know if you can park pulled off the side of the road along the reserve? I saw pull off spots but was unsure. Lastly and due to my short time hunting and on my own land, when you have to drag a deer out, what is the best way? I've thought abought picking up a cart, but don't really know if you leave it at the truck and go back and get the deer or take it with you. Sorry in advance for the elementary questions.

Not sure about your first question. But yes, leave the cart at the truck and go get it if/when you kill.

I would look into a deer sled. I prefer it over a deer cart unless you're hunting an area with roadbed access. The sled maneuvers up and over everything a lot better than a cart.

I'm not sure but I think you need to park at designated parking areas close to where you decide to hunt but I have seen vehicles parked on the side of the roadway . I don't own a deer cart but the last buck I killed @ yuchi I took my wheel barrow as I was close to one of the roadways so I just drug the buck close to the roadway and got the wheelbarrow to finish the job . Actually it was @ the last few minutes of the last day so I went to the checking station to let the GW know I would be still in there for a while and he let me borrow their wheelbarrow which had a wider wheel than mine . If you already have a cart then I'm sure it would be better .

The Hawk cart is the nicest cart in my opinion. It crawls over logs and such quite well.

If I was confident that I'd probably kill a deer on my hunt I might take the cart in with me. You can always pack your stand and gear on it for the trip.

I know nothing about the area you mentioned but I hunt Ames Plantation which is 18,600 acres. We have designated parking spots. We also have a lot of blacktop highway traversing through the areas with no such parking areas. We can pull off the side of the road and hunt in some of those areas but I seldom see anyone do that. It may be because when someone did their trucks were broken into. I might keep that in the back of my mind before parking in an area like that.

After nearly dying last season dragging my deer over the hills and hollers, I've invested in a sled for this season as well. Hope to get to try it out this year!

Kinda off topic, we were eaten alive by mosquitos this past weekend at Yuchi WMA. Take thermocells and extra spray, although it will be 30 degrees cooler this weekend. I'd still take precautions!! Park anywhere beside the road that you can get out of the way. Good luck!!

It makes life so much easier. My brother is allergic to deer hair so I'm the one that does all the dragging and gutting for both of us. After dragging deer for a few years I've come to appreciate the sled lol.

My understanding from talking to the Ones that work there that you can park on the side of the roads. As long as you don't block gates, roads, access to parking areas, etc should be fine.
