Parkerizing??

a local guy just got setup to do this,,seems pretty reasonably priced,,but I know little about it,,I have a couple older rifles that need bluing or something,,how`s the parkerized finish compare??

Not that it will have anything to do with the quality of your local man's work but several years back I had a rifle parkerized and have never been happy with the finish. Parts of the steel that were harder than others took the finish differently and it just never looked good to me. I've thought about getting some of the duracoat finish to put over the finish but just haven't done it yet. Like I say my experience may not compare with other peoples. I think mine was the first that my guy had done.

Parkerizing is a semi-more permanent finish than bluing. Parkerizing actually bonds the finish to the metal...allowing for less maintenance and even less rust. Parkerizing is not shiny like bluing can be, it is much more durable and requires less maintenance...that is why our military has been parkerizing its battle rifles for the past 100 plus years ;) I figure the duracoat endeavor is a good option if you're gonna do several weapons...if its just one weapon going into the tank, have at it :)
