I'm getting a 1/2 black and tan and 1/2 brendal plot, hopefully today. Was gonna train him to run hogs but am thinking bout getting into coon hunting, so I'm not sure what to train him for

I wouldnt think a mix dog would be registered, so you wouldnt be in UKC or PKC for coon huntin wouldnt stop you from pleasure hunting though of course. It would be rare to find something without a good pedigree that would make a coon hound but it does happen.

If your ready for more dogs go for the hogs, really better to have more than one dog for hogs. But if you only want to feed one dog go with the coon hunting.

I dont know the exacts but I think if a certified judge looks him over and he meets the breed standard for either breed then he can be single registered in that breed. I may be leaving some things out. Dont hold me to it.

You definately need a pack to hunt hogs as a group of hogs would absolutely tear a single dog up. If you know somebody that hog hunts ask them if you could go and take your dog and see if it shows any interest. May have to do some pen training first to peak its interest. If you only want one dog to mess with Id go with coon hunting. If it has any trailing or treeing instinct at all it can and will make some sort of coondog with proper training. And yes crossbreeds can make some good coondogs, hogdogs, bear dogs etc.

I believe I'm gonna train him to tree coons but if I do go the other way my buddy I got him from has a pack of hog dogs so I wouldn't be hunting alone. Thanks for all the input
