Had a great hunt this morning. Was hoping for blue skys, but i suppose gray worked out ok. Went to a spot i have hunted for 30 years, and it came through once again. i couldn't calculate how many limits have fallen from those ol storied hickories over the decades. I opened with a bad shot on a small gray but was able to follow up once he settled a bit. got really luck on squirrel 2 who moved at the shot and hid in a huge oak i knew i had hit him more than a bit low. After shooting squirrel 3 out i heard him fall and was able to lat may hands on him. I got the rust shaken off and was perfect squirrel 4 through 10. Finished with a trio of fox squirrels. The last once bounced off the ground at 7:50. The pace was steady but not frantic. The excess rainfall has the left the canopy a little dense, even more so than usual. Ended up with 6 travelers, 3 cutters and 1 squirrel that was guilty of all 3 during our brief encounter. 6 males 4 females. 7 grays and 3 fox. 2 of the foxes were males. killed 10 on 13 shots and didn't lose a squirrel. Not too bad for the 1st hunt of the year. Took the lil model 60 lss. I put a leupold rimfire scope on it and both worked to perfection. will be back in the woods next saturday.
