Yep. Im hoping for the rain most of the week so it'd be a little quieter getting in. Been a couple years since this tree has done well. Bumped deer off of it Sunday.

I will see at 4:00 am Sat morning on ONX the wind direction to which stand I will be hunting.Glad it will be no rain!
I've got a couple bucks in mind but no really solid feed pattern to chance hunting yet. But I think a doe or two will be in trouble! Im hungry and freezer is empty.

Here in SW TN, wind is showing light and variable Saturday morning which means a hunter can be winded in just about any direction. Up until then, prevailing wind looks to be N/NW. Time will tell.

I think I'm going to take the longbow and look for some meat…I can't wait to be in a tree!
I'm about as ill prepared for opener as I've ever been. I shoot my 3D bow all year but it's only 65-67#. Since the end of 3D season I've had a bike wreck and fell down a flight of stairs. Got my hunting bow out Sunday and it's about 4" left at 30 yds. TBH I think it's where I was shooting a handheld thumb button all last year with my hunting bow but I've grown so used to shooting a hinge during target I prefer the hinge and I think the hinge may be moving my POA a bit. I hope that's it and a bump on the sight does the trick and I'm still broadhead tuned.
All the rain this week hasn't helped being able to shoot. I'm 53 and haven't missed an opener since my first one at 6, so I'll sit in a tree regardless but won't shoot if the bow isn't up to snuff.

I'm with you on wanting to be in a tree. But you can keep that traditional stuff to yourself lol. I grew up hunting with an old Ben Pearson. Once I got into compounds there was no looking back. I will admit I sometimes miss the simplicity, speed of shot(not speed of bow), and light carrying weight. But not enough to go back to it.
I'd say that's probably likely. I can't even swap releases of the same style without it changing aim point. I can't imagine how changing the release type would change things. A HUGE part of shooting is muscle memory from repetition. Change something up and it's back to square one again.

Same. Not sure why but I've been more pumped than ever for this season. I feel like I'm in my 20's again.
I shoot a Stan Onnex Thumb Button and a Stan Onnex Hinge - made the same to assure the same POI. However, that's rarely the case it seems. I shoot a LOT throughout the year, but to sit here and say I'm a pro shooting the amount of arrows they do daily would be silly of me. My Scott Select hinge actually shoots closer to my thumb button than the Stan that's supposed to be exactly the same, LOL!
When you shoot a hinge you have no choice but to pull, pull, pull and slightly rotate until it goes off. Very consistent. Theoretically you're supposed to be able to do the same with a thumb button but that's VERY hard to be as consistent. The preload of your thumb may be more or less so you don't pull as hard and long plus a plethora of other things. I guess pros can switch between a thumb and hinge seemlessly but I can't.
My hunting bow is set at about 82# and it's easier for me to pull back or draw with a hinge, I think it's because I get to use my thumb on the barrel when I draw. I shoot my best target or hunting bow with a nice double sear wrist release set very heavy. No target panic issues or anything. I can make my wrist release hit the same as a thumb or a hinge, but not a thumb and hinge.
My only issue with a wrist release and I have a nice one, is I had some surgery on my right wrist about 8 years ago and I may get 3-4 shots before the pain is so bad I can't move my hand. I'm left handed and shot left handed until a few years ago and I can't even wear my watch on my right arm any more. So I can't get the practice in with a wrist release.
I have got my wrist and thumb hitting together and practiced with my thumb and hunted with the wrist knowing one shot was probably all I'd be taking.
That's a lot going on. I was never a real competitive shooter but I always loved shooting and hunting. I always had to keep myself grounded by keeping things simple. Otherwise I get in my own way by overthinking. In your case I'd approach it by shooting broad heads and field tips with each release to see if they're hitting together. If you're hitting good with both releases then pick the one you want and dial the sight in for it. But it sounds quite possible that one will not be hitting well because of torque. Whichever hits best is the one id stick with. Just because you like a release doesn't mean it likes you. Hopefully you get it figured out and can get in a tree!

I'm probably going to sit out the first few weeks this year. Don't get me wrong, I'm excited for deer season, just not that excited for the early season. I've got a lot planned for later and won't hardly work from Oct 16 thru Thanksgiving; a rut hunt in Ohio, I drew LBL and will probably bowhunt there some too, Guntersville fishing trip, a minor surgery, and a couple quota hunts in October and November. Since the weather is going to be nice, I may just spend the weekend with my wife, road-tripping around the state and eating good food.
Sounds like experience kicking into full effect.
If you do well in Ohio and need help, don't hesitate to hit me up. I'll likely be up there. Hope you get a bruiser!

Weather looks good, especially the morning lows in the upper 50s.
I cut out of the office early at about 4:30 and it wasn't raining when I got home and I got about 50-60 arrows in. I tried my thumb button and everything was just as it was last year and fixed broadheads were hitting with field points.
So I switched to my hinge and everything shifted left, but at least my broadheads and field tips were still stacking together. Wound up 20 clicks left on the site had me perfect and still BH tuned, THANK GOODNESS.
For grins I shot the thumb and now it's hitting to the right. I think a lot for me is I shoot a thumb and hinge differently. One I hold pretty doggone vertical and the other I'm more 45* which can cause left/rights.

I hope so but not looking good, baseball Saturday morning and storms Saturday afternoon, Sunday is yet to be determined.
i have 3 very mature bucks coming consistently to same stand but must have a south wind. i wont get near there with anything else, probably go to another spot and shoot a doe for jerky. good luck to all

Weather looks to be decent. Usually it's still in the 80s, and sometimes in the 90s during the day here in SW TN. I've never bowhunted, as it's more work than I want to put in, AND it's still too hot for me. I cannot sit still when it's hot. I'd rather be fishing.
