who will be hunting with open sights this weekend? I got a new CVA optima this past weekend and im gonna shoot opens sights and see how that goes.I think it maybe will be a bit more challenging. good luck to all that goes this weekend.

I did it for a while but in thick cover you can't see limbs between you and deer. Cost me couple of bucks before I wised up.
 
Doesn't work for us old folks that can't see the sights anymore. Didn't used to have to worry about breathing on those iron sights on a cold day.

I tried, but my eyes don't like open sights anymore. I'm thinking about trying a ring apperature instead of the regular v notch and see if I can focus better.
 
I've got an Am Knight, and a CVA Kodiak Mag. Both are sporting tru-glo open sights. I don't have a shot over 100 or so yds anywhere I hunt on my property, and I'm pretty confident with them out to that distance. However, I am noticing the effects of age on the old eyes here lately. May have to look into a scope for next season. :(
 
Biggest buck I ever took with a Blackpowder rifle was an 11 point, (he has a sticker on back of brown tine) taken with a T/C Hawken .50 cal with open sights at 117 yds.
(now, that was about 20 yrs ago when my eyesight was 20 years younger!) :crazy: :)

I wish I could hunt open sights, but I've had to switch from shooting left handed to right because I was smacked in the eye with a baseball bat. I can't focus for crap with my left eye.
 
I don't have too many problems with open sights yet except the fiber optics type,every darn one of them,the front beed is off center either left or right depending on the color.
