Love hunting out here. Can get a little crowded sometimes but see deer and love being able to explore.

That said, the firing range is a bit ridiculous. Sounds like a war zone over there at 8 in the morning both days so far.

Someone was shooting full auto yesterday. Between the combination of pistols and big guns, it was pretty much nonstop until dark.

I'm 1000 yards away from it and it's still loud enough to get startled.

Would be nice if they'd at least hour restrict it during the gun season, or on weekends.

When we would take our hunting trip to there I hunted there 1 day and it was middle of the week. But most of our hunting spots were not that close to it. Lots of land there to get away.
If it's a good spot just save it for a weekday.

They all should be restricted to certain days if on hunting premise's. Here Yanahli is Friday-Sunday 12-sunset. The times I've been around I've not heard it get too bad

May as well get use to it ! That range is overwhelmed with out of county shooters ! Apparently there is not a gun range from memphis to cookeville!!! LOL!!! They (Natchez Trace park ) is getting ready to do a major expansion to the range ($275,000 ) improvement and I can guarantee you it will be even busier !!

I'm a huge defender of keeping our public land open for all activities. It's easy for one group to feel like they have more right to the land at some point.

If we were to ban firing ranges during the weekends, then that should lead to banning any use of guns on the land. Each and every concern you guys have with firing ranges can easily be equated to a successful opening morning of rifle season. I would suggest we, the hunting community, begin to think more openly as a whole before we ask for the slow demise of our right to public lands

Another note is those ranges encourage ethical precision for hunters and many are limited to the weekend. It is pure excellence you have the ability to bump your scope and know by the evening hunt, you will be able to ethically take a shot at a deer

I enjoy hunting the trace and using the range. I get a long ways from the range. We are spoiled to live close to Natchez. I have my leases for early season and hunt the Trace later in the season. I just love the territory.

Shooting does not bother the deer!

Never heard of any range closing for hunting ...that includes LBL and TWRA WMA's.

It was the same over at LBL Kentucky side. Started at 7 this morning even with dense fog. Started with just. normal firing for about 2 hours then rolled into full auto for a bit. Couldn't see a deer for the fog or hear one for the gunfire. Had a great time though.

Yep, I wanted somebody else to say it, no offense OP you're starting to sound a little bit like a Karen!!!

I completely get where you're coming from!!! As a hunter I want it to be quiet and leave those deer feeling zero pressure whatsoever. On the other hand, we need people who can safely enjoy the shooting sport so they can pass on their love to the next group of young people who can safely enjoy the shooting sport.

I think Natchez Trace has close to 48,000 acres of land so there are plenty of places to hunt there. I use the firing range there every year to get all my guns sighted in for hunting season, although I tend to go in September or October and don't wait until right before season opens to get it done. I'm also coming from Jackson as there are no outdoor ranges open here that I know of except for the one at Lake Graham that is only open for a certain window of time. I didn't know they were about to do some work on the range, so although it might be busier, I'm eager to see what improvements they make to it.

They are also going to have to step up the enforcement end of it as there is absolutely no shotgun shooting there yet the target backstops are clearly being shot up by shotgun shooters and hulls left everywhere !! Saying that some people who frequent the range do exactly what they want to do !!

Careful what you wish for, there was a range in Millersville for decades and the transplants got together and whined enough they shut it down. As far as automatic fire I'm pretty sure that's prohibited at TWRA ranges. But welcome to Tennessee, the patron state of shooting stuff!!🤣

Thanks. I looked it up. Not a lot of information, just basics. But I'll have to try to remember when it reopens in the spring.
Yeah I tried looking it up before responding. Definitely generic info. I did notice they have a fb page but I don't do fb so I couldn't really see what info is there

I've read through all the replies. To be fair, I typed this post while sitting there listening to nonstop shooting so I was irritable.

All I am advocating for is slightly shorter hours during the hunting season since it's an active hunting area. Not closing the range.

I can't think of a good reason to have people shooting all the way til dark. Maybe this year it's more noticeable because it was warm.

Oh well

Never hunted the area but understand what your saying. Hunting has legal hours...no reason Oct thru Dec that the range couldnt have set hours. 9am to 3pm...plenty of time to do some mag dumps and still allow a couple of hours for hunters to have some peace.
5 hours of quiet and 6 hours to blast away...seems reasonable.
