Online Hunter Education course

Has anyone taken or had a youngster take the online version of the Hunter Education course? If so, did you/they think it covered everything well enough?

I think it covered the material better than many classroom courses I have seen, and it has a lot of extra information that is typically not covered in a classroom course that I think should be covered, like wildlife identification.

I prefer the online/cd course to the classroom course.

I personally like the classroom setting. Although self learning on the computer in the wave of the future, I think the discipline of 4 to 5 classes including the field day emphasize the importance of hunter's ed. Kinda like, no pain, no gain to an extent. My daughter actually did both, and I prefer the classroom and so did she.

I agree TT. However, with my daughter's cheerleading practices EVERY night , scheduling weeknight classes is becoming impossible.

I took the cheap one back when it was still free and did the field day/exam after that. Very informative

I took it just last year and thought it was good.

don't think your kid will take the online course than go to take the exam and test be over all the same material. atleast that is how it was with my kids they took online, than went to field day and a whole lot of the test wasn't covered on the cd we had, they still passed but the in class material is far better and more informative.

My daughter did the $9.95 one linked on the TWRA website and it was good. Not great but good. I did not help her more than just explaining a couple of questions to her.

It did go in to detail on safety, game management, animal identification, woodsmanship, and types of weapons. It was all adequate or more.

That said, knightrider is right, even with her certificate she had to take the full written test again and of course field day.

She did pass by the way.

I'm going to have to check on that.

They've scheduled it this way here in E TN the last two years. I won't miss her cheer competitions for anything, but it makes it rough to get up and hunt, then race to the competition in time. If I remember correctly tho, it may be in our county this year...man, that would be awesome. Give me at least another hour or so to hunt in the morning.

If you guys remember last year, I killed a nice 8 pt on opening day ML, then had to race like crazy to field dress, get it out, checked in, and then even had to have my cousin take it to the processor for me so I could get to Crossville in time to see their performance.

LOL- My kids are way past the cheerleading and games to attend and I'll be dead before the G-kids are old enough.
