I landed a couple rifles this week in an online auction. Nerve racking to say the least. I looked at the rifles last week at a local NG armory and decided I would try for one of them. It got down to the last minutes of the auction and it looked like the gun I wanted would go out of reasonable reach, so I put a bid on another rifle that didn't seem to be getting the attention it deserved. I was high bidder on the latter at closing and realized the original gun I was wanting was seconds from closing and still in my price range , so I threw a last ditch bid. I ended up winning both with only intentions of going after one gun. I'm very happy it ended up that way now though. I am the proud owner of a Marlin 444 early 70's model and an early 70's model mint, never even had a scope mounted, Rem 742 Woodsman 30-06.
 
both Classic Eastern whitetail rifles,,if you could find a vintage steel 4x Weaver in mint condition to go on the 742 it would be like a 40 year time warp,,
 
Sorry the pics upside down guys. I don't know why. The Marlin is the gun I was after. I put the scope and sling on it today and zeroed it in. It's going hunting in the morning.
 
Same for me with the 742. My dad's last hunting rifle was a 742 in 30-06 with Weaver 3x9x40. Killed a lot of deer back in the 70's with it. Always wanted to try and find that rifle again just for nostalgia. Nice score recurve!

I did some research. The Marlin is a 1973 model and the Woodsmaster is a 1969 model. The Marlin is a tack driver at 100 yards. I haven't shot it further than that, but plan to. I will have the Woodsmaster scoped and ready for next season. I don't want to sight in any more guns at my place at the moment as my range is my lower field and is pretty hot with deer lately. I plan on that being my go to gun. I love a the 30-06 round.
