We just finished our last match of the year. I was in 2nd place for the coveted "Shooter of the Year" honors at our range.

Shooter of the year is the average of your best 8 scores from the monthly matches. The SOY started last January and ended today.

I was 7 points behind the leader, and 7 ahead of the 3rd place shooter going into todays match. I started off great with a 46 and a 47 on the first 2 targets, and I was hoping I was going to at least get close to the no 1 guy.

I went to the pits and he shot a 46 and a 41 for his first 2. Things definately getting interesting. My last 2 targets were under some horrible shooting conditions.

The wind was very switchy and pushing pretty hard. It took its toll, as I shot a 39 and a 40 score second relay. I watched the leader suffer from the same scenario and he shot low scores too. When all said and done I had a score of 172 to his 164.

This was 8 points and put me a single point ahead for the Shooter of the Year honor.

I`m very happy about this, as I really wanted it bad.

There will be a cerimony at the January match for my award.

I came in 2nd place in todays match, to one of my best buds from Smith Co, at Dickson Springs, Randy "birdog" Dawson.

I have not set foot in the deer woods as of yet.

There is an update, just received an e-mail, and phone call that the results have been incorrect. The guy that was in first was able to drop todays score for another. His new average puts him 4 points ahead and the "Shooter of the Year".

Sorry for the wrong information, I sure was caught up in the moment as it was announced as me the winner.

Oh well, something to shoot for in 09.

Im my older age, I am surely enjoying the challenges handed me by this sport.

Tim - WOW, what an accomplishment to be runner up in 1 year! Those guys are in real trouble next year. I've got to make it to one of those matches to watch.

Steve, if I thought there was any way to see something like you killed, I`d be there.

Benton Co. MS is just not known for quality deer at all.

I am just going to put a couple does in the freezer if I can.
