Flip a coin, or pick your favorite.

If I could only have one gun, I would take my 30-06 but between the two you have listed, I would go with the 6.5 mainly because I can't see anything in TN you couldn't easily kill with it and the recoil is pretty light.

It would definitely be a 30-06, but I own more than one... Heck, choosing the caliber is easy, but rifle and load combinations vary greatly.
 
I would take the 30-06. If you reload, you can load it for anything in Tn. with all kind of bullets and weights to choose from. East Tn Hunter is right, itwould be boring.
 
It would be boring but still interesting to see what people would pick, I'm also curious the ones that hunt with multiple do you practice with all of them as much as the guy that only hunts for a couple

I shoot all of my rifles fairly equally. Obviously you have your favorites but I will likely burn out the barrel on my 300wsm in just a few years and it is a hunting rifle. My 7mm08 will be shot several hundred times a year. My 280ai is only about 2 months old and it has 200 rounds down it. My 308 has around 500 through it in the last year and as soon as I pick up my new razor Sunday my 223 will be back in action and will see at least 1000 rounds a year. While that isnt a lot compared to some people I shoot as much and as often as my schedule and wallet allows with all my rifles. I will go through roughly 3000 a year on an ar and pistols will usually see 3-5000 a year.

I think that a guy who hunts with several different rifles and calibers probably shoots more than a guy that just hunts with two. Any gun I plan on taking hunting gets a couple of trips to the range before the hunt. I just love guns and shooting, probably as a result of
my dad taking me hunting and shooting when I was little. Most average deer hunters dont own but one or two guns. I have friends who don't shoot but once a year right before deer season. They kill deer so they are happy.
 
up until I was about 30 years old I only owned 1 deer rifle,,it was a 700 BDL 25-06 with a Redfield 6x Wideview scope,,I kept it zeroed where it wouldn`t hit over 3 inches high or drop under 3 inches low out to about 325 yards,,I could hold top of their back at 400 and the fat part of the reticle at 500 and very rarely ever missed anything I shot at with that rifle,,
when I first signed on here about 17 years ago I was the idiot everybody made fun of for claiming to be able to hit something as big as a milk jug as close as 500 yards,,Tndeer has changed a lot since those days,, :rotf: :super:
 
I am a huge fan of the 30-06. But if you are limiting yourself to just hunting Tennessee my choice would be the .270

I use a couple to multiple rifles during season because of different terrain but primarily because I enjoy using them and want to get a kill with all of them..Each get about equal range time,no more than needed really just enough to keep dialed in. Range time is primarily for pistols and ar's for me.

As far as a one gun voice from what I own----7mm mag
 
The only gun that anyone needs to hunt is a 20 gauge. Single shot. Of course that would be boring for many who enjoy the act of shooting just as much, if not more, than hunting. But the wide variety of ammo available for a shotgun, makes it the most logical choice for a one gun hunter.
